Why Your Colors Matter

I feel like one of the first things (and hardest things) you have to choose as you plan your wedding are your wedding colors. So much revolves around the palette that you choose. From florals, to decorations, centerpieces, invitations, and so on, the colors that you land on will totally set the vibe for your entire day.

I love to see all of the different color schemes and combos that my couples implement. The colors just feel so totally them and add so much to the day and honestly to how I approach photographing it! If you're a bride and you're struggling to narrow down your wedding colors or are feeling overwhelmed, I've put together a list of eight of my favorites from this past year to give you all of the inspo that you'll ever need as you seek to pick out the colors that represent you and your love the best.

Yellows and Blues

If you're like me, then you saw the yellow and blue trend absolutely blow up this past year for wedding colors! It quickly became one of my favorites. This palette feels light, happy, and really fresh while still staying timeless. It also gives a little bit of a summer coastal vibe which I love! It works especially well for spring and summer weddings, garden weddings, and outdoor ceremonies. If you want your wedding to just feel supremely happy, carefree, yet still classy, these colors are for you!

Colorful Pastels

Colorful pastels are a great option for couples who want things to be fun and exciting, but still keep the soft and romantic feel of the day. They're a great balance for brides who want their wedding to be fun and colorful, yet still timeless in the end when you look back at your photos. They photograph beautifully and although we see a lot of this color scheme in the spring and summer, I've seen brides use it in the winter too and it's still stunning and fun!

Classic Neutrals

More classic neutral color palettes will always be in style and will honestly always be a good choice! If you're aiming for a classy, more editorial, and more cohesive look for your wedding day, this could definitely be for you!

These colors always photograph well and are perfect for weddings any time of year. If you want wedding photos that will still feel timeless decades from now, neutral color palettes are always a solid choice.

Bold and Bright Multicolored

This color scheme is very similar to colorful pastels, except the colors are less pastel and more bright and exciting! When couples lean into color and do it intentionally, the day feels creative, expressive, and very personal, not busy or like things are clashing.

These palettes bring so much energy into the space and often reflect couples who want their wedding to feel super fun, unique, and memorable. If you love color and want to make a statement, this is a great direction.

Pale Pinks and Soft Neutrals

If you're looking for a wedding color palette that has color but are worried that bold bright colors aren't really your style, this could be the perfect pick for you! Incorporating pale pinks into your neutrals colors for the day gives such a pretty, romantic, warm look, while still adding that little bit of variation and excitement in your color scheme. This is a perfect scheme for brides who want something elegant, soft, and timeless without feeling too traditional.

Plus, I've seen brides use this all year long! I had two weddings this winter with the prettiest pale pinks and it worked just as well as my brides who used it in the spring and summer!

Warm Earth Tones

If you want your wedding to feel intimate, cozy, warm, and personal, these colors are absolutely for YOU! I tend to see this color scheme pop up a lot in the Fall because the colors just naturally lend themselves to the colorful yet classic and cozy feeling of Autumn. I could go on but I'll just let these colors speak for themselves.

Bright Yellows and Pinks

This color palette is similar to the yellow and blue of before, just substitute the yellow with different pinks! This color scheme is again for couples who want their wedding day to feel supremely happy, carefree, and fun!

What I love about this theme too is that you can add lots of different kinds of pink in addition to the yellows to add more variety (think light pink, salmon, and even leaning closer to orange) or you can stick to just one shade of pink. Both are beautiful. These colors tend to lean more to spring and summer weddings as well, but can work for other seasons too if you tweak some of the supporting colors!

Classic Black and White

You can truly never go wrong with a black and white wedding color palette. It’s timeless, clean, and works in almost any venue or season.

This look always feels elevated and intentional and photographs beautifully. If you love a modern, classic style that will never feel dated, black and white is always a win.

Choosing the Right Wedding Color

At the end of the day, the best wedding color palette is the one that feels right to you. Trends are helpful, but they’re not rules, and you definitely don't need to do it just because you see it all over Pinterest! The weddings that photograph the best are always the ones that feel personal and natural and that reflect the love that the couple has for each other.
